After a long delay in Seattle's King St Station trying to get WSDOT's new Charger locomotives to link up with Mater (Cab Car), a Cascades test train arrives in Tacoma's Tacoma Dome Station. The train will spend the next several hours running between TR Junction on the BNSF Seattle Sub (north end of the Lakewood Sub) to Nisqually (south end of the Lakewood Sub). The next evening a different train reached the top speed of 79 mph completing certification for the Cascades equipment on Sound Transit's Lakewood Sub. In a few days a Starlight trainset will do the same and if all goes well, passenger trains will begin using the Lakewood sub on 12/18/2017. As the Locomotive says, this is a "SUPER SPECIAL". These are the first WSDOT Chargers to on a Cascades train.
Tier IV locomotives are the safest, cleanest, and most fuel efficient locomotives on the rails today. Unfortunately, most of them are ugly and are as quiet as an ACS-64.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
