The northbound Canadian Pacific wayfreight from Cranbrook passes some reflective backwaters of the Columbia River 3.5 miles south of Spillimacheen, British Columbia on the afternoon of October 3, 2010. At this late date, it was a treat to see a trio of EMD SD40-2s—5870, 6023 and 6019—all still decked out in CP Rail Action red complete with Multimarks, hustling north with freight beneath a timeless mountain backdrop. Another 43 miles or so, and the crew will be able to yard the train at Golden, put away the power and call it quits for another day.
