1702 climbs the at least 2% (could be 3+; I don't know what it is through here) grade up the horseshoe curve just west of Bryson City. The diesels on the rear of the train are having to do much of the work since 1702 is slipping all over the place due to the wet rail and steep grade, resulting in all the smoke because the engineer keeps backing off the throttle. Despite this, the 1702 and its stack are still putting on a show as it fights to find the grip needed to pull the 13 car train. |
