Remarks & Notes |
Here we see two engines in the collection of the Colorado Railroad Museum that worked at iconic businesses in Colorado. CORX C988 was built in 1938 (SW) and then was rebuilt in 1957 as a SW900. The engine performed switching duties at the Coors Brewing Company plant in Golden, Colorado, which is only a couple miles away from the museum. It was donated to the Colorado Railroad Museum in 2004.
The Manatou & Pikes Peak Railway cog-driven 0-4-2 was specially designed to climb steep mountain slopes with grades up to 25 percent. It was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1890 and operated up and down the Pike's Peak mountain in Colorado Springs. In 1938 it was retired when replaced by diesel power and was put on display and the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It was donated to the museum in 1979.
