The 65 metre high Landwasser viaduct, which has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Albula Bernina since 2008, bridges the Landwasser creek with 6 arches of 20 metres span width, with a curve radius of 100 m, and leads directly into a vertically sloping rock face and the 216 metre long Landwasser Tunnel. The viaduct was built from 1901 to 1902 and the Albula line from Thusis to Celerina was inaugurated in 1903. Interregio train 1157 from Chur to St.Moritz is crossing the viaduct from left to right shortly before 6 PM, pulled by Ge 4/4 III # 644 with powerful new white LED headlights. The green lights of the pre-signal of Filisur are reflecting in the windows of the train, which was an ALVRA trainset. In the background, on the valley slope, some lights from the small hamlet of Jenisberg. In the far distance the 2908 meter high Leidbachhorn, between Monstein and the Sertig valley. There is some light from the waxing moon in the sky.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
