If one did not know better you would think this is a pic of winter operations in the early 1900's. With bitter cold temperatures and falling snow, the Colorado Ralroad Museum staff muscle the turntable so that DRGW 491 can back onto the main track for today's runs. The Baldwin 2-8-2 was built in 1902 as a Class C-41 standard gauge locomotive as was rebuilt in 1928 to narrow 3 foot gauge. It is the largest operating narrow gauge steam locomotive in the US. The museum will be running 491 through the holiday season as the "Polar Express". |
