R711-S313 blast forward toward the photo line at Allansford, on Steamrail Victoria's 'Warrnambool Westcoaster' day trip. This was the first set-back photo stop held on the mainline in Victoria since 2004. In the late 90's-early 00's, R711 was extensively modified and used on revenue Saturday passenger trains on this line by private operator, West Coast Railway. When Steamrail restored the loco, many of the mods were reverted to their original arrangement - however it has stayed as an oil burner, and is fitted with a diesel control stand to allow multiple unit operation with a trailing diesel locomotive. Somewhat in fitting with being a bit of a mutant, 711 is now painted in the attractive Victorian Railways blue and gold livery, which was never historically worn by an R class.
