A transfer run of 5 locomotives from Bellinzona (Luino/Biasca) to Wohlen (-Payerne) over the Gotthard mountain line is entering Airolo in deep winter. Pulling is Re 4/4 II # 11158 (Re 420 158) of the SBB passenger division, rented by TR Trans Rail for this day, followed by the Re 421 # 393 (Re 4/4 II # 11393) of the IRSI in multiple traction. Third is operational Ae 4/7 # 10987 of Swisstrain (built in 1932 by SLM and BBC, transfer from Luino to Payerne). The forth locomotive is not operational Ae 4/7 # 10951 of ClassicRail (built in 1931 by SLM and SAAS, transfer from Biasca to Payerne). In the rear is not operational prototype Re 6/6 # 11602 "Morges" of Swisstrain (built in 1972 by SLM, BBC and SAAS, transfer Bellinzona to Payerne).
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
