Two "Giruno" highspeed trains RABe 501 of the SBB in multiple control are running the IC 10463 (1463) of the line IC2 from Zürich via Arth Goldau-Bellinzona to Lugano. The train will enter the new 15,4 kilometer long Ceneri Base Tunel (CBT) in a few seconds. The CBT, part of the NEAT (Neue Alpen Transversale/New mainline through the Alps), was officially inaugurated on september 4th, and now during the day all Intercity and Eurocity trains are using this new base tunnel from Camorino to Vezia below the Ceneri pass. During the night, there are first freight trains diverted through the tunnel. Full mixed freight and passenger service will start by no later than change of timetable in december.
