After the 1967 merger, the ex-ACL became the premier N-S route for SCL through Richmond, with the old SAL relegated to secondary status. The old SAL line shown here is already showing signs of neglect, with the double-track ex-ACL a couple miles to the west getting all the attention and all the maintenance dollars.
