Between 1969 and 1973, the Lehigh Valley improved its forty-foot box car fleet by leasing 750 rebuilt cars from US Railway Equipment. The majority of the cars were originally Pullman-Standard PS1 and Bethlehem Steel AAR cars, but 100 were Hew Haven PS1’s. All were adorned in the green paint of LV parent Penn Central, as were LV gondolas and cabooses that were painted in this timeframe. Here one of the NH cars is on one of the receiving tracks at Allentown, Pennsylvania.
