From passengers to beer For many years, Burlington Northern operated a trio of EMD SDP40s on the branch to Golden serving the sprawling Coors Brewery—on trains called the “Beer Run”—naturally. Between trips, BN Cascade green SDP40 No. 6398 rests outside the 31st Street locomotive facility in Denver, Colorado, on May 18, 1991. Once equipped with a steam generator inside the squared off end of the long hood, the locomotive was built in May 1966 as Great Northern No. 324 to haul passenger trains.
