Moving museum pieces. With the exception of the museum's Brill Motor Car, all of the other pieces of railroad equipment at California's Laws Museum are normally static displays. Many of them had not moved in years, when Southern Pacific Locomotive #18 arrived for her visit in March of 2023. For the purposes of a photo shoot on March 23rd and 24th, the organizer had requested to use several of the freight cars as part of a photo train, and had also requested that Locomotive #9 be moved to a location close to the turntable. Special precautions were taken to avoid any damage to these display pieces, including considerable greasing and oiling of all bearings. In this image, #18 can be seen backing down the siding on which the museum's freight train has typically been displayed, in order to pick up several freight cars. On the following day, the 18 would couple directly to Locomotive #9 and take her down to the south end of the yard.
