OKLAHOMA CITY June 13 2023 — EMD built this SW8 in 1952 and delivered it to the U.S. Army as No. 2034. It was rebuilt at Hill Air Force Base in 1987 and was assigned to the Army Ammunition plant in McAlister OK. In 1992 it was transferred to the Army’s Fort Sill near Lawton OK. The locomotive was eventually acquired by the Oklahoma Railway Museum. In 2015 it was painted in MKT colors by ORM volunteers and renumbered to OKRX 48. As of this writing it is in running condition. My sincere thanks to ORM volunteer for showing me around the museum for an entire day. I got to see the 48 as it switched the hydrogen unit from leading to trailing. Greg and I chased many a train in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. My photo.
