A San Diego & Arizona Eastern freight arrives in San Ysidro (pronounced san ee-sidrow), near the border between the United States and México. Operated by Kyle Railway, the SD&AE operated a fleet of GPs in Kyle's attractive blue and white paint scheme. SDAE GP20 103 (ex-Union Pacific 498, née-UP 728) and GP9 102 (ex-UP 155) are powering today's international freight. In September 1976, Tropical Storm Kathleen (in railfan parlance, "ex-Hurricane Kathleen") wiped out much of the SD&AE's eastern line across the mountains to El Centro, and a connection with Southern Pacific Railroad. The line from San Diego, California, USA, to Tecate, Baja California, México, was still very much in use, as evidenced by the long freight seen here, winding down the tracks in the distance.
