Yard Power.
A trio of Norfolk Southern (NS) locomotives are seen maneuvering a double stack consist in the railroad's Inman Yard. On point is SD40-2 no. 6222 in a Georgia-specific "green" paint scheme, followed by RPU6D no. 890, and GP38-3 no. 5819. Unlike many other yard slugs, NS 890 was built on an entirely new frame in April of 2016. The unit provides additional tractive effort and dynamic braking for slow-speed hump yard operations, taking advantage of excess electricity produced by the prime movers of connected locomotives at low speed.
