On 8 June 2024, the Rhaetian Railway's new 5860-metre Albula Tunnel II between Preda and Spinas was officially inaugurated and from 12 June, trains will run on schedule through the new tunnel, which has been under construction since 2014. The project was around 4 years behind schedule, partly due to corona and delivery delays in connection with the Ukraine conflict. Over the next two years, the old tunnel will be rebuilt into a safety tunnel, which will be connected to the new tunnel by a total of 12 cross-passages. Ge 4/4 II # 620 of the Rhaetian Railway is leaving the new Albula tunnel II in Preda with freight train 5152 from Samedan to Landquart freight yard. In the portal of the old tunnel is diesel shunter Tm # 116 waiting. In the background the Dschimels (Twins) mountains (2777/2781 meter high), which are exactly above the tunnel bores.
