I would have thought that the CN unit would be salvagable. I remember that the BNSF did up a GP60M some years back that was much worse off than that

I agree with the previous poster. That CN engine is looking a bit better than the UP engine. Then again we can only see part of the engine. God only know what the rest of the engine looks like.

One thing is probably for sure: when the crew is done healing, they'll be going in for coffee with their boss.

Well unfortunately they're past that. On my site the engineer describes his last moments and the ongoing investigation with UP and the potential outcomes.

I saw in Railpace Magazine's layest edition that CN is now considering repairing or retiring this unit. Does anyone know what happened to the other 7 units involvedin the wreck. Is there a web site devoted to finding out what happened to wrekced units?

The CN 2545 was sold to Union Pacific, becoming thier first Dash-9 sold to another Class-1 railroad. The CN 2667 was wrecked in a separate derailment and was sold to CEECO but was repaired and returned as CN 2727.

I think this is Union Pacific 4687 as I was looking at the list of the damaged locomotives and this was the only one that was a EMD SD70M
