When I first glanced at this picture I actually thought the unit had caught on fire for some reason not just belching flames out the stack. I've seen a lot of unit's blowing flames out the stacks, ALCo's, GE's, EMD's, and so forth but this is one of the worst ones I've seen. I can just imagine that exhaust manifold has got to be glowing right now.

Simply being in the right place at the right time! Very nice!

The ALCO's we had would put out a little flame when they were under a good load, especially at night, they put on a show and really they didn't start to pulling good until the foot long flame started flickering out the stack. When the turbo boost gage would read around 25-27 psi on those cool nights when the air was dense and the sound that those 251 engines would make.... is a sound I really miss...

No wonder they call them "Toasters"!

Wow! this picture is incredible! I filmed NS Smokers for Dailymotion.com but when I checked that picture out, Engine On Fire! Engine On Fire! I hope NS gets maintenance taken care of before that send that monster out again!

So Southern Pacific wasn't the only one with Dash's that could make fire.
