If something looks odd about the rear end of this C424M, it's because when built, it had the protruding number boards that maked the Phase I carbody. When rebuilt by GE/Hornell (for the D&H), the sheet metal was trimmed back and new number boards were added, which accounts for their more shallow angle, and the lack of the typical sloped area below them.
