Like I said... it's a winner! Great shot - could've been posted while the WMSR posts were getting saturated and it still would've captured everyone's attention.

And to think that this image was almost lost forever. Great shot Janusz and a very fitting tribute to Mr. Markle.

Absolutely love it, J. The mood from the steam lingoring in the air, the muted tones and the conductor in the doorway of the caboose.. Perfect candidate for the SC, and, I really hope my vote helps you win a deserving PCA.

I also love it, totally and absolutely. Timeless and absolute human element in drama scene is always stick in my heart and soul.

Not what I normally like but this is a truly amazing photo. The SC is well deserved as well as a PCA that I hope you get.

A great example of why one shouldn't put the camera down once the locomotive passes the photo line. Nice!

I agree with Steven. A PCA is definitely in order.

Congratulations on the SC, Janusz. A very touching photo honoring Conductor Markle's life with the WMSR. I do believe that this photo will have additional RP headlines in the next few weeks.

Congrats on the SC, and I hope a PCA comes your way as well. That is a really nice shot that shows the human side of railroading.

Janusz - Nice photo and 'ditto' to all of the comments above especially the comment about not putting the camera down after the locomotive has passed by!

No better of a way for a tribute to Richard Markle, showing him doing what he loved to do. All around, great composure for this photo. PCA

Janusz, even though I'm probably among the last to write a comment, I have been admiring your image ever since it was discussed over in the forum. This is the kind of image where railroad photography can legitimately claim to be an art form, as opposed to documentary. Great lighting, subtle color, well composed, and a bit of human interest. And a couple of good lessons for aspiring photogs. One, sometimes the best image is not the one you plan for, so be ready for the unexpected. And secondly. the fact that it didn't initially jump out at you is a good lesson in why it is good to review the stuff that dropped onto the cutting room floor the first time around. Congratulations on the POTW and the almost for sure upcoming PCA.

This is the way I always want to remember a good friend. Riding the rails as he always loved to do. Richard Markle will be missed by many. The WMSR and it's friends have lost a wonderful man.

A beautiful photo, and essay, even 12 years later Janusz. I hope Richard is still up there. Keep up the great pictures.
