This unit was part of the IC rebuild program, done in the Paducah, Kentucky Shops. This would be a fairly easy kit bashing project. These units have lasted a long time and are now scattered nation wide. Basically these were GP-9s with chopped noses and cabs manufactured on site. These are some what "hot rodded" as they got up rated engines with a four stack exhaust manifold. They can be painted for the current owning railroad or for the model railroaders own paint scheme if there is one. Note the head light remains on the cut down nose from the unit used, some units had the head lights on the cab. Some of the re-built units came from railroads other than the IC, On a shop tour during the rebuild program I saw the start of one of these and the unit being disassembled was a Union Pacific GP-9B, thus the need to build some cabs "in house". If you are a modeler, have fun, Search GP-10 for GP-7 rebuilds and GP-11 for GP-9 rebuilds as both were done.
