How very sad! I love seeing these massive beasts roaming the rails.
So that's where they are. I hope they get a majority of them back in service.
The four units on the far left (SD90-MAC-H) should be the ones that are up for auction on CP's website and have been for quite awhile now.
I've heard from sources at other railroads that the SD90MACs were not preferred for various reasons. Does anyone know why? The UP also seemed to be storing or purging many SD90MACs from its roster.
Also it's a great picture, even if you are not a train buff. Very interesting composition with the lower left diagonals and how the sun has melted the snow on each unit. PCA from me.
It is great to hear that some have made it back in to service. While other roads are just cutting them up.
I don't see any more updates about the CP SD90MAC (or SD9043MAC) dated with the year "2010" on this site, and RRPictureArchives yet. =P

This reminds me of one of AT&T's "more bars in more places" advertisements.
One of the worst locomotives I've ever had the pleasure of running. Bumpy, nasty ride. I hope they stay in storage.
Is there a reason other than crew comfort that 10's of millions of dollars worth of relatively new equipment is sidelined??
Is there a technical or economic shortcoming to the SD90 series?
The units on the far left are not SD90's, but SD70ACe's or SD70M-2's. The squared-off nose is the telltale.
To clarify the comment made by Patrick Smith, the units on the far left are SD90MAC-H-II models numbered 9300 - 9303. CP only purchased 4 of them. These units were plagued with problems from the start mainly with software and electrical problems. Check out RailPics photo ID #76281 by John Rice.

I heard a rumour that these units we're taken out of service because of exploding turbos. Crews we're warned not to leave the cab when the units we're under heavy load because they could be hit by flying metal if the turbo exploded while they we're walking by it.
