The line this train is on is the former Pennsylvania Elmira-Sodus Point branch. After the Pennsy and New York Central came to an agreement on the disastrous (although they did not know it at the time) merger in 1965, PRR abandoned much of the Sodus Point line, north of Penn Yan up to Newark NY and south of Watkins Glen to Horseheads, NY. Tropical storm Agnes washed out much of the PRR Elmira branch, as a result of that Penn Central abandoned tthe line from Elmira (Southport) to Williamsport.
