How very, very curious? I'm with you Scott I wonder what the story is.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "Safety Cab"!

Very cool shot. My guess as for the shrink wrap is it is heading into long term storage. I have seen boats and planes wrapped like that to protect them from the elements and thieves.
Maybe it's lettered for the Buffett Northern.
Maybe they sold it on Ebay and are hoping for good feedback about how well the item was shipped! That is peculiar to say the least.
It's headed to Glendive for long term storage, it's laid up bad order. Apparently they're wrappin' up storage units
I thought "LUGO" is laid up GOOD ORDER, not "bad order."
OOPS!! It is "Bad Order." Lo siento mucho.

Some years back there was an article about Southern Pacific doing this, "mothballing" units it was putting in storage; and how to model them by using plastic bags. Don't remember if it was in Model Railroader or Railroad Model Craftsman.
That's what LUGO is: Laid Up Good Order. The computer is showing a status of LUBO, Laid Up Bad Order, as of 8-19-10 at 0026. It's a shrink wrap test during long term storage. The unit has been cannibalized for parts, a brake grid, and they plan on harvesting the last 3 good traction motors.
Kyle, you are correct. All BNSF SD70's series are in storage. That's why it's wrapped in plastic.
Well as far as all the SD70's being in mothballs is not fact, Just saw 2 of them today headed West on a MTY Coal drag on the NS in Elkhart, both were 9600's one in the Green and Cream the other in the Pumpkin scheme.
I guess they won't be needing the handbrake?
