The hood-side louvers, and hood-top cooling fan just ahead of the cab, indicate this SW8 is equipped with dynamic brakes. On such eight-cylinder models, the shorter engine block allows the d/b to sit inside the hood, while on the 12-cylinder (SW1200), the d/b grids and fan would occupy a hood-top box just in front of the cab face.
