Personally, I prefer the 'modern' steam locomotive photos in black and white. Since a great deal of my train books show steam locomotives in black and white, that's how I've become accustom to viewing them. While interesting to see what black and white photos were hiding, color photos just seem too modern and don't capture the 'era' or 'essence' of a time long since vanished into the past.
