I attended school at Western Washington University in Bellingham starting in the fall of 1979. Was only able to see the Milwaukee for a few short months unfortunatelly. Thanks so much for sharing this Tim!

Good photo with lots of fun details, if you look closely. Looking on a map, it appears this section of Milwaukee RR track was isolated from the rest of the system, like the Port Townsend to Port Angeles section. Sadly, the map shows both are abandoned.

MILW's islolated Bham-Sumas line was acquired from the Bellingham Bay and British Columbia RR in ~1918. For a time, the Canadian Pacific was considering Bham Bay as its western terminus (BC was still a British possession, and there was no Vancouver yet). Until the mid-1950s, MILW barged their freight south; thereafter it acquired tkg rights from the GN and later on a different routing, over the BN.
