Nice shot and station history/info, Douglas. My memory says 4 tracks under the shed, but my memory is increasingly unreliable. Don't know how we didn't cross paths in Montgomery in the '70s.

I wrote the caption for Douglas, and cribbed the "six tracks" in the caption from Wikipedia. And, as we all know, Wikipedia is sometimes a bit unreliable. It may have been four tracks, or it may have been six with two removed by the 1970s. If anyone knows for sure, let us know and we can tweak the caption accordingly.

If you look at the photo carefully you can figure out the number of tracks. Look to the right of the photo there are two sets of tracks and then the track the AMTRAK is on makes 3 and this brings you just to the right of center shed. On the left there is room for at least 3 tracks, although now removed, that would bring you to the center of the shed, left. Using this scenario it would indicate that originally there were six tracks total.

At first glance, I thought this was one of David's photos. Very, very nice photo and caption. I never thought about the expanse of tracks on the south end being used as a coach yard but it does make perfect sense as I reflect on my memories of the location.
