An inspiring piece of engineering for sure, but I cant say I will be happy to see it open, I hope it does not bring the total closure of the original Gotthardbahn.

@ Nikos: No worry, the Gotthard mountain line via Göschenen and Airolo will stay operational, but probably there will run only a Regio Express service hourly.

Thats good to know, but I'm still glad to have visited the Gotthardbahn while it was still in full service. Will be a rather boring, though much faster ride for the passengers through the tunnel.
