Is that one or two derricks in the backround? This is one of the few steam engines that will be operational for many years to come. Compared to most of the other steamers this one is just barely out of diapers. And it's a cute little (?) toddler at that.

That appears to be two cranes in the background, based on the fact that there are two cabs and booms. The 3025 was recently rebuilt thus has a much longer tome to run before it's boiler tubes will need to be replaced. Also it was built in China where steam locomotives continued to be built much longer than in other countries thus is much younger in total years since built.

Nice shot, but i think youngest steam locomotives are in Brienz Rothorn Bahn in Swiss (built 1996 ?)

Nice light and like the way your composed the scene with all the clutter in the background. Makes it look like a real working railroad.

Tomas, you are correct; there are indeed newer steam locomotives such as the ones you mentioned. I would add the magnificent Tornado to that list.
Actually, I was thinking in terms of 3025 being the last of the line of mass produced locomotives meant for mainline services, not one offs for heritage lines.
Then it can be argued that is what 3025 represents as well since is was one of four locomotives meant for heritage line service in the USA.

Every steam locomotives produced after 1960-70 approximately are very interesting..
