Very interesting shot. Where is 6310 so that I can see this "Skeena"? That's an interesting looking car behind the second engine (6301 I assume). What is it?

The first cat behind the locos is a steam generator car. This was required to provide steam heating for the coaches in use at the time.
The third vehicle behind the dome car is loco 6310 heading the "Skeena" portion of the train. At this time the Skeena ran from Edmonton. It detached at Jasper, the Supercontinental going on to Vancouver and the Skeena departing a couple of hours later for Prince Rupert.

VIA 6310's nose is can be seen just after the 2 passenger cars seen behind the dome car. This scene has changed so much in the last few years. With the tracks gone there is now a large office tower situated where this train is departing from. Where the small brown building is in the foreground there are now LRT tracks heading north. The annex building, seen on the right, is now boarded up but still standing.

If you were to take a photo from the same vantage point now you would see Rogers Place. Edmonton's new home of the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club.
During the excavation and construction of the new arena they unearthed the old turntable base that sat in front of the former GTW roundhouse that was there. They simply covered it back up and continued with the construction of the arena.
