I'm pretty sure this unit was previously Southern Railway GP30 2597, which was built with a high nose. That particular group of rebuilds got new EMD spartan cabs, with the sloped roof, and a new air filter compartment, to replace their non-standard GP30 features. They also recieved new, V-section, corrugated radiator screens, instead of the as-built horizontal bars, protecting the radiator shutters.
