Nice photo, Dennis and most-appreciated and informative write-up which means so much to those of us not knowing much about railroading. (keep it coming, please)

I thought I heard of plans by the UP to send parts from Big Boy #4014 to the Steamtown shops on their restoration project; possibly replacing the tires on the drive wheels.

As a federal agency, Steamtown does not do commercial contract work. The Strasburg Railroad and the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum are probably the facilities that you are thinking of. They do exceptional steam locomotive wheel work and have both done so for the UP IIRC.
