I am glad that nobody was hurt. This is definitely a dream come true for birds and deer..

I don't know about anyone else, but I get a little dis-heartened and saddened when I hear about or see photos of a derailment. I know it does happen, as there are circumstances beyond control - but still it seems a little sad to see a train wreck, derailment, on the ground, etc. There's just something about a train off the rails that gets me choked up!

Would need one hell of a side-hill combine to harvest that lot if it grows!
|
Thankfully it wasn't a passenger train.

Tragedy is as much a part of railroading as a highball.

Glad it was not an oil tank car train, that would have been a major disaster.

Now that I've regained my composure - to add to the comments about the corn, it would be interesting to see this spot come late June / August or early September 2015. That would make an interesting "follow-up" photo for sure. I wonder how much, if any, will take root and grow? Will be a good source of food for the wildlife in this area.

I've never seen the bottom of a grain hopper before. It took me a bit to figure out the two derailed cars at the top are derailed covered hoppers missing the trucks.
Thanks for the pic.
