One killer of a shot to start your portfolio off with here on RP.net !!!
|
Cold and crystal clear air on this beautiful scene is what makes it so fantastic. You have gotten everything just perfect for the capture.

It;s like your there. Great shot.

Again, my PCA vote for this shot, nothing more to say!
|
Gorgeous light under difficult conditions -- bright/shade.
|
I've never seen a BNSF GEVO with a purple snow-plow.
|
What the heck is going on under the bridge there? Someone went overboard with the shadow/highlight tool.
|
Was going to ask the same why is the plow purple?

Simply amazing !

Welcome to RP and good effort for getting out in the elements to get this shot. But, this shot as many here can relay too usually would be met with a quick rejection from the screeners with several flaws such as over processed and I would like to think newer submissions would be met with tighter scrutiny being "The Best Railroad Photos on the Net". Keep them coming as both photos are getting high views but realize many good shots never have made the cut. A good place to get educated is the FORUM threads to appreciate what I'm saying on this site.

Totally glamorous.

Thanks again for all the comments. I agree that the resolution is not correct in this photo. The original .tiff file has none of these issues. As far as the screeners allowing this photo to pass, maybe they saw something different for a change and agreed with the overwhelming number of people who have faved the photo. I see that most of the people who have something negative to say about this photo have had nowhere near the positive response on their own photos as this photo has received!

A couple things, Walt.
First, I find it odd that you would've submitted the JPEG in the first place if you could see that there were such obvious issues with it, issues that normally would've gotten the picture rejected no matter how good it was otherwise.
Second, the reason people are upset is that many others with perfectly fine, and in fact great photos have had them rejected for what are usually less-serious issues than the ones apparent in this image. Granted, it often happens for people who do not pay for their memberships from what I've seen. And of course, if you're paying for a membership then I suppose it is completely fair to have your pictures more readily accepted...
Third, I can see browsing through that several of the negative commenters have more popular photos than this one...
All that being said, the photo is very unique and you clearly put a lot of effort into reaching this location, and with some improved processing it could be made even better.

Very cool shot and I like its creativity but I see 3 different shadows positions. First you see the sun glare reflection on the side of lead engine and the shadows on the right. Second the mountains in the background the tree shadows suggest the sun is on the right now. Then the bridges shows light coming from the left at another angle again. Seems like its a stitched image of some sort.
