It's a shame this is originally B&W photo, as this appears to be a "one of a kind" PC paint scheme, and it would be great to KNOW what the lighter upper color was. PS: The Stockyard Inn, located immediately adjacent to the stockyards used to serve REALLY GREAT steaks. They MAY still.

Rich, I wish I could remember what color this unit had on the top of the hood and cab. I can't seem to find any other photos online, except all-black. Maybe one will turn up sometime. The Stockyard Inn Restaurant is still open, but a lot has changed in this area...

I think its an optical illusion, there is a shadow across the bottom of the locomotive making it look like the top is painted a lighter color. You can see the same shadow on the stock car behind the unit.

looks like it is a shadow from a building making the appearance of two colors tones. I'm guessing it is solid black or green

I don't think it's a shadow line; the long hood of the switcher definitely appears to be a lighter color. There is a shadow line you can see on the cab, but that looks like the darker black or Brunswick Green (which was basically black) lit differently, as opposed to a lighter color. The top of the hood on the other hand is much brighter, and the "shadow line" doesn't match, since the light color comes down below the line if it were continued from the cab back along the hood.

9044 seems to have spent a lot of time in Lancaster. I took a photo of it in 1969 or so in PRR paint, then again in 1981, in CR patched paint.
