Is the train heavy or something? Seems like very few cars on there for a train with three locomotives.

It is some form of ore train so yes it would be heavy. I'm only guessing but I'd say that the weight combined with the grade of the line would be the reason for 3 locomotives. I also think that normally this train is a little longer than this too.
