It is easy to see what part of the train gets to live behind chain-link fence-- looking down the line of tanks there is absolutely NO graffiti on them! Whereas, these are perhaps the most graffiti-covered locomotives on this website.

How is it that I can't get within 50' of the track without a rr detective showing up to run me off, yet these engines get entire paint jobs?

I am so sick of the taggers vandalizing everything in sight.

The RR Police are probably getting paid off by the taggers ! Shame you can't get too close as a Railfan, but these Morons have all the time in the world to " repaint " a Locomotive !!!!!!

As a former long-distance truck driver, I used to make deliveries in this area. It is extremely dangerous be it daytime or at night. When waiting to get unloaded, I witnessed the graffiti artists at work quite a bit on parked railcars. A lot of it is gang related as I was told. I have been all over the country and have not been able to watch a train go by without seeing that crap on the sides of the railcars. These bums need to stop this and find something else to do, like get a job and quit messing up the country with their so-called art.

Oh, it's art!

I don't get it. These high tech locomotives are a crucial, and expensive, asset to an enormous company. How can UP allow this? The solution is not that hard or expensive considering the assets value. In NYC, the subways were tagged because the yards had poor fencing and no cleaning. With David Gunn, double wall, razor wire, patrolled fences were put up and that stopped the large graffiti. On a daily basis when a train comes to the terminal for a turn around, cleaners get any fresh small tags or the train does not go out. Actually that was the past because NYC taggers have moved on to softer targets. Why UP cannot do something like this is unfathomable.

Very interesting shot. It's easy to see where UP's priorities are. Run off the railfans, but let the taggers take all the time they need on rr property. Lord help us.

Taggers are a little bit like your canine friends... they mark their territory, unfortunately you can't train taggers.

Any idea of what it costs to repaint a locomotive by the RR?
Posted by Jessica Wray on July 17, 2016
Cavranger, I'd guess a few thousand dollars to repaint a locomotive.

I think it's around 30 grand but the railroad would probably get sued for failing to allow people to express themselves.

Paint doesn't move freight. God, only a bunch of foamers would cry about a paint job. Gensets are garbage anyway to be honest.
