Wow, the engine was only 12 years old in this picture and it is beat to all get out, sure looks like the Katy did not think these locos where worth spending much money in the way of maintenance.

Maybe this is one of those PAs that had the notorious 244 engine, that cost ALCO so much in $$, market share, and possibly its partnership with GE.

Flawed, they may have been, but this beauty would certainly have looked mighty fine heading up the streamlined "Texas Special."
