MADNESS ! How much could the scrap value possibly have been to a company that was hemorraging money on a daily basis. Hard to believe someone couldn't have come up with the scrap value in order to save ONE at least.

I've always wondered that if these had been built with roller bearings on all axles (like the GG1s), would they have been reactivated in the early sixties and lived a bit longer to possibly see Penn Central paint?

I can not. I still imagine that this model could have lived with the GG1 and lasted until the Amtrak period, dividing traction through the northeast corridor until the 90's.
