They were notoriously unreliable, especially in cold weather, despite being a Canadian product. As a frequent VIA passenger in the 1980s, if you had one of these on your train on a cold night, you could count on being late. Once we had to be towed into Ottawa by a CN freight engine as our Bombardier LRC failed before it could reach the station.

I remember seeing these in South Station Boston and being rather impressed. As a fan, the concept of a NEW ALCO passenger locomotive was exciting. Much like the UA Turbo-Trains, they MAY have not been particularly reliable, but they DID make a wonderful sound accelerating out of a station.
