You have to wonder whose idea it was to replace the New Haven Line's catenary tower mounted lineside signals (which are only for interlockings for crossovers/junctions and movable bridges) with the current "dwarf" signals (mostly; a few are on higher more conventional "posts," but only on outside tracks). The "dwarf" signals can easily become buried and invisible in heavy snowstorms, which would seem to be a good reason to stick with "overhead" signals on a line like this.
