Thanks Georg for sharing these wonderful photos. I really appreciate your photography and thoughtful commentary it is presented with. I hope that you can make another visit to NZ. While there is still a steam railway here, there is just fading hope that the line will be brought back into use for freight trains beyond Wairoa. Work continues restoring the line for the start of log trains from hub there to Napier port 2 days a week next year. The massive slips around Beach Loop keep that section inoperable indefinitely. If the public usage of railways here was like you have in Switzerland it would have been fixed fairly quickly.
