This train would have rumbled past my old homeplace in Claremont, just west of Statesville. Oh, where have the years gone?

Is Mooresville-Statesville line still in place/operation?

The track is still there but it has been many moons since I have seen any action but I am rarely in Mooresville.

Thanks for the update David. Statesville was a fun place in the 1970s, though I was usually on foot when I there (USN tdy w/o car).

The line was ripped out just south of Statesville to just north of Moorseville in the mid 80's. Statesville depot was moved to the opposite side of the tracks (viewers right) in the 90's and is now used by the police dept. A small correction to your notes, the line at Moorseville wasn't the Washington-NOLA mainline as that was a bit further east but the O-line which ran from Charlotte to Statesville. The L-line branched off at Moorseville and ran to Winston Salem.
