Now that is interesting! But I don't expect that Alvin Staufer is going to be updating the roster in his Pennsy Power book.

Thanks for sharing this updated view of #5550 Mitch....she's going to be a PRR brunswick green monster! I sure wish the PRR had kept one of the originals, but this replacement will do just fine. Signed, an existing donor to the T1 Trust Fund.

Mitch, thanks for recording the scene and for your detailed caption. For anyone wishing to read more about the PRR T1s, I recommend the late Mr. William L. Withuhn's book, "American Steam Locomotives, Design and Development, 1880-1960," specifically, Chapter 19- "The T1 and Poppet Valves: The Last Important Innovation." The chapter contains some revelatory information, astounding to any student of the Superpower steam era.

And there is a great big beautiful tomorrow where this thing is running.

I think this project even exceeds the restoration of the 4014. I hope to live long enough to see this project when it is completed.

What I considered amazing in the rebuild of the boiler is that the courses are welded, not riveted, together (what looks like rivets in the firebox course are likely stay-bolts). The next amazing reconstruction will be the frame and cylinders.
