This engine was modified to prepare her for a superheater but the job was never done so she was mostly a switcher in nearby Bristol. In the latter years superheated 382 and 429 held down the runs to West Jefferson.

From talking to the folks at the Strasburg Rail Road, it is my understanding that the N&W folks didn't typically use the name "Mastodon" to describe the M-Class. Rather, they just called them "Twelve-Wheelers." While I wish this particular one was indoors, the location is certainly most appropriate.
