I wonder what the purpose was for that lonely little tower that seems to be out in the middle of the woods?

AM (Altamont) Tower is situated only about 20 feet from the current No. 1 Main, so not exactly "out in the middle of the woods". As with most interlocking towers, it was used to control the (former) interlocking here.
