The monorail was the answer to some of the transport needs in Las Vegas. The route is east of the strip (not on it) making it not as user friendly as other transit systems. Expansion is pending.
First train of the day (of a handful) is this baretable seen here rolling south in the desert at Jean.
Gently downhill, a DPU assigned to an intermodal coasts through Bard and into Arden on a warm desert afternoon.
Cresting the grade.. A UP rock train rolls over the top of the grade at Erie, heading westbound on the Cima Sub.
Leaving Las Vegas, a southbound rock train leaves the strip with all of it's glitter behind seen at Arden.
A UP rock train steps across Donovan Ave departing strategic materials, preparing to head westbound.
A UP rock train slowly rolls empties out of a local industry in north Las Vegas, before proceeding westbound.
Solid set of 2nd generation power works Arden Yard before heading out for Boulder Junction to work the BMI branch.
A good look into Arden Yard from the new the Cactus Ave bridge. Really enjoyed this perch for trains, a safe area, easy to park and the bridge has a good walkway safe from traffic.
The new Cactus Ave overpass just south of Arden opens up a great & safe view of the UP main heading out of Vegas. Here a UP work train heads west.
UP work train rumbles out of Vegas passing local power in Arden yard. This is from the new Cactus Ave overpass.
A UP stack train hustles through the desert landscape near Jean.
Double stacks bound for LA stretch above an Army Reserve complexe in Sloan, just south of Vegas. What deceptively looks like a remote desert outpost is only a short trip to the Strip.
A single DPU helps shove a short manifest (of about 30-40 cars) through Sloan. This was the 2nd train I saw all day in Vegas.
Five motors (and a DPU out of sight) lug about 40 cars or so of this eastbound through Sloan and then into Las Vegas Valley.
