Norfolk Southern Train 214, which was right on the tail of 212, comes under Phillipsburg's Black Bridge with a BNSF surprise on the point in the form of an SD40-2 still in BN Cascade Green.

#142 is framed by dense foliage as she approaches a road crossing near Carpentersville. Though the leaves have not yet begun to show their colors, fall is still in the air.

#142 passes another relic from days gone by as she makes her way southbound through the small town of Carpentersville at a brisk pace.

#142 is reflected in a puddle on a narrow lane paralleling the tracks. The morning showers eventually gave way to sunshine on this warm afternoon in late-September.

Though #142 may have been built in China a mere eighteen years ago, this scene could easily depict a mixed freight train on a rural branchline in the 1940s.
